The UAE will have achieved Vision 2021, National Innovation Strategy, Dubai Plan 2021, Dubai Health Strategy 2021, Sharjah Tourism Vision 2021 and Ajman 2021.
Vision 2021 is a long-term plan that aims to make the UAE one of the best countries in the world by the year 2021 when the UAE would celebrate the Golden Jubilee of its formation as a federation. H. H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, launched 'Vision 2021' in 2010, during a Cabinet meeting.
The Vision is based on four pillars:
The pillars have been mapped into six national priorities which represent the key focus sectors of government action in the coming years. The priorities are stated in detail in the UAE National Agenda.
In order to translate Vision 2021 into reality, Sheikh Mohammed launched a seven-year National Agenda leading to Vision 2021. National Agenda identifies six national priorities as the key focus of government strategy in the coming years. The six national priorities are:
In October 2014, Sheikh Mohammed launched a National Innovation Strategy with the aim of making the UAE one of the most innovative nations in the world within seven years. The strategy will stimulate innovation in seven sectors where innovation is key to excellence: renewable energy, transport, education, health, technology, water and space. Its first phase includes 30 national initiatives to be completed within three years. These include new legislation, innovation incubators, investment in specialised skills, private sector incentives, international research partnerships and an innovation drive within government.

Update - Expo 2020 Dubai
Expo 2020 Dubai has been postponed to 2021. It will be held from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022. Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), the organisation in charge of overseeing and regulating Expo 2020 Dubai, announced the new dates after gathering the approval of two-thirds majority of the member states.
The vote for postponing Expo 2020 began on 24 April and is scheduled to run until 29 May. However, within one week since the voting began, two-thirds of the votes were realised. Following the pandemic, the UAE had requested BIE to delay Expo 2020 by a year.
Expo 2020 Dubai will retain its name, committing to host an exceptional event that will celebrate humanity’s resilience, creativity, culture and innovation, including major technological advances in the fields of medicine and science.

Expo 2020, which will have more than 190 nations exhibiting and welcome an international audience of 25 million visitors.
The theme of Expo 2020 is ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’. It recognises that generating sustainable solutions to global problems demands collaboration across cultures, nations and regions.
The Expo site covers 4.38 square kilometres, including a 200-hectare gated area. It is located in the Dubai South District, adjacent to Al Maktoum International Airport.
Expo will provide visitors with the chance to see spectacular architecture, merge with global cultures, examine thoughtful and thought provoking exhibitions, and taste food from every corner of the globe. Above all, visitors to the event will witness the very latest in thinking and technology all in one place and at one time.
70 per cent of all visitors are expected to come from outside the UAE. This is the largest proportion of international visitors in the history of Expo.
The UAE will have been successful in sending an unmanned spacecraft to Mars 2021 as part of the Hope Mars Mission. It will be the Arab world’s first mission to Mars. The mission is scheduled to begin in 2020 and is expected to take 9 months in a journey of 62 million kilometres to the Red Planet. The mission aims to study the climate of Mars and discover the reasons for the absence of an environment suitable for life.
The Emirates Blockchain Strategy 2021 aims to capitalise on the blockchain technology to transform 50 per cent of government transactions into the blockchain platform by 2021. The blockchain technology will help save time, effort and resources and facilitate people to process their transactions at the time and place that suit their lifestyle and work. By adopting this technology, the UAE government expects to save AED 11 billion in transactions and documents processed routinely, 398 million printed documents annually and 77 million work hours annually. Dubai Plan 2021 addresses the urban environment including both natural and built assets, and looks at the living experience of the people of Dubai and its visitors as a result of their interaction with this environment and the economic and social services provided. In addition, the plan also focuses on the economy, which is the city's development engine and its fuel for its march forward.

In January 2016, Sheikh Mohammed launched Dubai Health Strategy 2021. The strategy features 4 main approaches, 6 objectives, 15 programmes and 93 initiatives, all of which are set to achieve a leap over the next five years. The aim is to provide the highest quality of medical care to patients with chronic diseases, promote a culture of early detection and raise awareness about the importance of regular check-ups.

Smart Dubai 2021 aims to move to a 100 per cent digital future within four years leading to the Dubai Government issuing its last paper transaction by 2021. It calls for intelligent use of ICT to transform the city’s core components and create a balanced and happy life for citizens and residents.
Ajman 2021 focuses on building a happy society that will contribute to building a green economy backed by a distinguished government in harmony with the UAE Vision 2021, National Agenda and Spirit of the Union.
Ajman 2021 explains a happy society as a cohesive society that has a positive spirit and attitude, is proud of its heritage and values and communicates with elements of its environment. It states that society members are educated, ambitious and effectively taking part in the achievement of a comprehensive and balanced development.
It explains green economy to be an active economic movement contributing to the enhancement of sustainable development aiming to achieving prosperity in the various fields. Green economy should be supported by modern and comprehensive government policies and incentives.
It states that Ajman Government is a distinguished government as its actions are efficient and reflect the requirements of society and business environment. Processes of Ajman Government departments are governed by smart policies, together with legislations and frameworks.
