The academic year in the UAE starts in September and ends in June. There are two shorts breaks and a long summer vacation.
The academic year has been divided into trimesters since the academic year 2010-2011. All public and private schools in the UAE must offer the minimum number of instruction days set out by Ministry of Education.
In September 2020, the Ministerial Development Council adopted the public and private school calendar for the coming three academic years. The decision established a clear and detailed timeline of school days and holidays, to achieve integration between schools and families, according to the best international teaching practices.
The number of school days for schools following the curriculum of the Ministry of Education- MoE will be 188 days in the 2020-2021 academic year; 186 days in the 2021-2022 academic year and 188 days in the 2022-2023 academic year. Schools that do not follow MoE curriculum must have a minimum of 182 school days.
